Descaling a coffee machine
Descaling a coffee machine.
Coffee machines heat water to a very high temperature in a very small space. This releases limescale, which can settle everywhere.
Large coffee machines often use chemically treated or fully demineralized water to control the problem.
Unfortunately, chemical descaling cannot always be eliminated completely, particularly in small machines for home use. This is because the pipes and valves in coffee machines are often very narrow.
When the last hot water passes through the machine, it evaporates immediately and leaves limescale behind. When a new coffee is made, the quantity of fresh water is often insufficient to dissolve the old scale because the flow velocity is too low.
The result
A MERUS installation in the house reduces deposits. In any case, it extends the intervals at which the coffee machine needs to be descaled.
For large commercial coffee machines, the Merus Ring is installed directly on the water supply line. The machine becomes easier to clean, and service intervals are significantly extended. Limescale that collects as loose sludge at the bottom can be removed easily.
Some customers have also reported that, depending on the water quality, ground coffee consumption could be reduced by up to 15%. This is because Merus significantly increases the solubility of all soluble substances in water, including coffee, so less ground coffee is needed to achieve the same strength.
